Pankau Named CCIW Top Pitcher; McIntosh Second Team all-CCIW

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan junior Jason Pankau was named the co-winner of the "Pitcher of the Year" honor in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and senior first baseman Casey McIntosh earned second team all-CCIW honors in voting by league coaches on May 25.

Pankau, who shared the award with North Park's Peter Sparacino, is the third Illinois Wesleyan pitcher to win the top CCIW honor in the last three seasons - Brent Kulavic was the winner in 2008 and Matt Aronson was the 2007 winner.

Pankau, who earned second team all-league honors in 2009, was 4-2 with a 3.45 earned run average in league play. He was fifth in the league in 44 1/3 innings.

McIntosh
A second team all-CCIW selection for the third straight season, McIntosh was the Titans' leading hitter against the league, batting .333 with eight doubles, five home runs, a triple and 23 runs batted in.

Sparacino was 6-0 in CCIW games with a 4.04 earned run average. Michael Corrigan of North Central, who hit .388 with eight doubles and five home runs, was chosen as the CCIW's " Player of the Year" while the Cardinals' John Fitzgerald was the CCIW "Coach of the Year."

The Titans, who finished 12-9 in conference play, are 27-20 overall and have won seven straight games, including championship games in the CCIW tournament and Division III Moline (Ill.) Regional. IWU will face Shenandoah at 7:45 p.m. Friday, May 28 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships at Grand Chute, Wis.
