IWU's Engel "Three-Peats" as Conference's Top Pitcher

2010 CCIW All-Conference Softball Teams

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the third straight year, Illinois Wesleyan senior #Christy Engel# has been named softball "Pitcher of the Year" in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while senior #Allison Ward# and sophomore #Kayla Mahoney# were also chosen to the all-league squads, as selected by league coaches on Monday, May 10.

Engel (St. Charles, Ill., North HS) led the conference with a 0.70 earned run average, was second in wins with a 5-2 CCIW mark and finished second in strikeouts (52 in 50 1/3 innings).

Named to the all-league first team, Ward (Bloomington, Ill., Normal Community HS) was a second team selection last year and was a first team all-CCIW player and "Player of the Year" in 2008. This spring she batted .292 with two doubles, one home run and nine runs batted in against the league.

Chosen to the second team, third baseman Mahoney (Elk Grove, Ill., HS) hit .333 with one double and nine RBI in conference games.

Illinois Wesleyan has a 30-14 record and finished 9-5 in the CCIW this season and will play Fontbonne at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, in the Indianola, Iowa, NCAA Division III Regional.
As the winner of the CCIW tournament, the Titans earned the automatic qualification into the 2010 60-team NCAA tournament field. This is Illinois Wesleyan's fourth straight appearance and 10th overall showing in the NCAA Division III tournament.
