BOLINGBROOK, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan won its third straight CCIW men's golf championship on Saturday, May 1, at the Bolingbrook (Ill.) Golf Club and
Ryan Dorner was the tournament's individual medalist, besting teammate
Matt Wennmaker by one shot.
The win is the 13th in school history and eighth in the last 10 seasons for the Titans and, with the team victory, Illinois Wesleyan moves on as the CCIW's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, held May 11-14 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The Titans won with a team score of 1217, followed by Millikin (1243), Carthage (1250), Wheaton (1253), North Central (1275), North Park (1292), Augustana (1292), and Elmhurst (1314).
Dorner, who shot a final day score of 74, took home medalist honors, winning with a four-day score of 297. Wennmaker, who had a 73 on the tourney's last day, was second (298), followed by North Central's Nick Guido (303), Illinois Wesleyan's
Dex Reese (306), and Millikin's J.B. Spillane (307).
Carthage's Donnie Langland placed sixth (309), followed by Wheaton's Steven Moore (310), Millikin's Sean Liston (312), Wheaton's Dan Downey (313), and Carthage's Ben Schroeder (314). All of the individuals that placed in the top 10 earned "all-conference" designation.
Illinois Wesleyan's
Doug Keller tied for 21st with a total of 322 and
Jake Scott finished tied for 23rd with a four-day total of 325.
The first two rounds were played at the Country Club of Decatur (Ill.).
