Solari Named Women's Basketball "Most Valuable"

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior Christina Solari, a second team Division III All-American selection who led Illinois Wesleyan in points, rebounds, assists and steals, was named the "Most Valuable Player" for the 2009-10 IWU women's basketball team.

Solari, who was on the second team D3hoops.com Division III All-American squad and earned honorable mention on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)/State Farm® All-America team, led the Titans with 13.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. She shot .567 from the field (144 of 254) and made a team-high 88 steals.

Illinois Wesleyan, who finished 28-2, was ranked No. 6 in both the final D3hoops.com poll and the end of season ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll. The Titans set team season records with 490 free throws made and 405 steals.

Christina finished her career at Illinois Wesleyan ranked No. 2 in both field goal percentage (.600) and rebounds (884), No. 3 in free throws made (313), No. 4 in assists (338) and No. 10 in points (1,187).

She holds school season records in field goal percentage (.624 in 2007-08), free throws made (121 in 2008-09), rebounds (312 in 2008-09) and steals (88 in 2009-10).

In other team honors, sophomore Karen Solari was chosen as the Titans' "Defensive Player of the Year" and junior Hope Schulte was the winner of the annual "All-American Titan" honor, bestowed for sportsmanship, integrity, leadership and overall responsibility to basketball success.

Schulte, who earned honorable mention on the WBCA/State Farm® All-America team, averaged 11.7 points per game and had 82 steals.

Head coach Mia Smith, whose 12-year overall record is 227-97 (.701) and 119-49 (.708) in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, awarded letters to 13 players. They are:
