James Wins CCIW Weekly Pitching Honor

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan junior Lauren James was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin softball "Pitcher of the Week" on Tuesday, April 13.

James struck out 82 percent of the batters she faced in three games last week. James had a record of 2-0 with one save and struck out 18 in 6 2/3 innings. Opponents hit only .045 against her as she allowed one hit in 22 official at bats (a double against Hope). She struck out 11 in four innings in a 7-3 win over Hope on April 9. She then fanned four in 1 2/3 innings in a 3-1 win against Washington (Mo.) on April 10, and struck out the side in the last of the eighth to earn a save at Augustana on April 11.

An environmental studies and Spanish major from Montini Catholic High School, Lauren is the daughter of Susan James from Darien, Ill.

North Central junior outfielder Lauren Schramm was the CCIW softball "Player of the Week" as she hit .667 and drove home 10 runs in helping the Cardinals go undefeated. In the CCIW opener vs. Elmhurst April 6, she had a double and a home run in game one, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBI. Two days later against Beloit, Schramm hit her third homer of the season and a double, finishing 3-for-3 with five RBI. For the week, she was 10-for-15 with five extra base hits, scored six runs, and had a 1.267 slugging percentage. Defensively, Schramm had nine putouts and no errors.
