Freshman Polich Earns League's Softball Honor

In her first full week of college softball, Illinois Wesleyan freshman outfielder Stephanie Polich has been named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin "Player of the Week" on Tuesday, March 23.

Polich batted .345 (10-for-29) in eight games during the week of March 15-20 as the Titans went 6-2 during that span.

Polich, who is hitting .361 for the season, scored five runs, walked twice and stole three bases during the week as the team returned from their Florida trip with a 7-3 record. The Titans open their home season with a doubleheader against Monmouth at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24.

Polich, who is undecided on her academic major, is a product of Nazareth Academy and is the daughter of Rudy and Carol Polich of Lyons, Ill.

Millikin sophomore infielder/pitcher Whitney Schafman was named CCIW "Pitcher of the Week." she was 4-0 on the mound, allowing only six earned runs in 30 innings of work (1.20 ERA) and 33 strikeouts. Her performance was highlighted by a 13-strikeout performance in a 4-1 win over Rowan March 16. In a 6-2 win over Endicott March 18, Schafman allowed no earned runs and only five hits over seven innings. She also hit .536 at the plate over an eight-game span.
