Titan Women Finish Fourth in National Track Meet

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - For the second straight season, the Illinois Wesleyan women's track team finished tied for fourth in the NCAA  Division III indoor track championships, held March 12-13 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

In the day's final event, the 4x400 relay team placed second with a time of 3:51.59 to give the Titans eight points and raise their total to 21 total points, tied with the University of Chicago. The 4x400 relay team consisted of senior Ali McCoy, sophomores Lauren Alpert and Jessica Christy and freshman Lauren Rock.

The Titan women were the 2008 indoor national champions and have also placed fourth in 2009 and 2006; sixth in 2004; eighth in 2000; and 10th in 2007.

The winning 4x400 time of 3:48.73 was turned in by Wartburg College, who was the team champion with 33 points.
In second place was Wisconsin-Oshkosh with 29 points and in third was St. Lawrence with 24 points.
 
In addition to the 4x400 relay on the final day, McCoy had a time of 57.22 seconds and finished fifth in the 400 meter run. Calvin College junior Rachel Boerner was the champion at 55.95 seconds.

Senior Mackenzie Clemens also got a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run as she turned in a time of 2:13.62. Sophomore Emily Schudrowitz of St. Norbert College won the event with a time of 2:09.24.

Illinois Wesleyan senior Amanda LaRocca placed eighth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.47 seconds. Messiah College senior Kristen Bates was the champion in 8.00 seconds.
LaRocca was disqualified in the 55 meter dash and did not run in the finals.

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Senior Amanda LaRocca qualified for the finals in both the 55 meter dash and 55 hurdles and Ali McCoy qualified in the 400 in day one (March 12) of the 2010 NCAA  Division III indoor track championships at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

In addition, senior Mackenzie Clemens qualified eighth in the 800 meter run. Her time of 2:15.12 trailed the first day low qualifier, Allison Chamberlain of Keene State with a track record 2:10.81.

LaRocca had the fourth best qualifying time in the 55 hurdles at 8.23 seconds. The top qualifier was Kristen Bates of Messiah at 7.89 seconds.
LaRocca also posted the fifth best time in the 55 with her time of 7.12 seconds.

McCoy's time of 57.27 seconds was the eighth best qualifying time. Robin Yerkes of Roanoke (Va.) had a time of 56.62.

The Illinois Wesleyan distance medley relay team finished fifth in the finals, The team of Tara Clemens, Jessica Christy, Ashley Heilingoetter, and Kerry Devitt had a time of 11:59.22.

Sophomore Lauren Alpert failed to place in the long jump, making a distance of 17 feet-4 inches in her efforts.

The championships will conclude on Saturday, March 13.
