Titan Women Hold Off Elmhurst, 73-60

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team won its 20th game of the season, claiming a 73-60 home court decision over Elmhurst on Feb. 6.

IWU improved to 20-1 overall and 9-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays lost their second straight CCIW game and fell to 14-7 overall, 7-3 CCIW.

The Titans trailed 24-16 with 7:16 to play in the first half before going on a 12-2 run to claim a 28-26 lead with 3:55 to play in the half, punctuated by a Melissa Gardner 3-pointer. IWU never trailed after that and led 42-32 at the intermission.

Senior Christina Solari scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace the Titans while juniors Nikki Preston and Hope Schulte each added 12 points. Preston had a team-high five assists.

The Bluejays, who outrebounded IWU 44-39 but were guilty of 28 turnovers, got 26 points from Lyndsie Long and 11 points and a game-high 14 boards from Megan Ney.

IWU shot 37 percent from the floor (25 of 68) while the Bluejays made 35 percent of their field goal efforts (19 of 54) Both teams made four 3-pointers, with the Bluejays attempting 11 to IWU's 23.

The Titans next play at Millikin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
