NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The No. 1-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team opened its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season with a 77-63 win at North Central on Jan. 5.
This week, Illinois Wesleyan assumed the No. 1 ranking in both the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll and in the D3hoops.com poll. The win was the women's team's 50th straight regular season victory, dating back to a 68-63 loss to Millikin on Jan. 12, 2008.
Two Titans scored in double figures, led by junior
Stacey Arlis, who scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Titans went to 12-0 this season. Senior
Christina Solari added 11 points and sophomore
Olivia Lett contributed nine points in her first-ever CCIW game.
The Titans, who never trailed in the game, shot 39 percent from the field (26 of 67) while the Cardinals shot 48 percent (24 of 50) but were guilty of 28 turnovers. IWU connected on six of 30 3-point shots (20 percent) and committed 21 turnovers while winning the rebound battle, 41-32, including 21 offensive rebounds.
IWU scored the first basket of the game and rolled out to a 10-2 lead, eventually leading 43-30 at the half.
North Central (3-9 overall and 0-1 in the CCIW) got 26 points and five rebounds from Jackie Errico.
IWU will meet Carthage at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Shirk Center. This week, the Lady Reds are ranked No. 8 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll and No. 11 in the D3hoops.com poll.
