McHugh Wins CCIW "Swimmer of Week" Award

For the second time this season, Illinois Wesleyan freshman Katie McHugh has been named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's "Swimmer of the Week" on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

McHugh achieved a lifetime best in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.00) against Millikin on Friday, Jan. 22. She also achieved a lifetime best in the 100-yard butterfly (59.92) against Millikin. McHugh won the 200-yard butterfly against DePauw on Saturday, Jan. 23, with a time of 2:13.28, which was about three seconds faster than her previous lifetime best in that event.
In addition to placing first in her individual events this weekend, she also helped the medley relay place first at both meets.

An environmental science major at Illinois Wesleyan, McHugh is a product of Homewood-Flossmoor High School. She is the daughter of Ms. Liz McHugh andd Don McHugh of Homewood, Ill.

McHugh shared the women's honor with Wheaton junior Caroline Hannema, who swam un-tapered lifetime best times in a dual meet with Carthage on Jan. 23. Hannema won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.4, and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.7.

Millikin senior Matt Melcher was CCIW men's "Swimmer of the Week" as he placed first in the 500-yard freestyle in a dual meet with Illinois Wesleyan on Jan. 22. He won with a time of 5:16.30, coming back from third place in the last 150 yards.
