BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For their efforts in dual meet wins against Principia on January 9, Illinois Wesleyan freshman Kathryn Haynes and sophomore
Mike Firth were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's and men's "Swimmers of the Week" on Tuesday, January 12.
Haynes earned three season best times against Principia. In the 100-yard backstroke, she improved her season best by almost 1 1/2 seconds with a time of 1:06.33 while leading off the medley relay. In the 200-yard individual medley, she dropped over a second off her previous season best with a time of 2:34.48 to finish second. She also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:25.72.
Haynes, whose academic major is undecided, attended Century High School in Rochester, Minn., and is the daughter of Beverly and Jeffrey Haynes of Rochester.
Firth earned a lifetime best in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing second with a time of 1:49.71. He also had an un-tapered best in the 100-yard backstroke, leading off the 400-yard medley relay with a time 53.68. In his final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, he split a time of 50.73, which was less than a half a second off of his best split time.
A biology major who attended United Township High School, Mike is the son of Ronnie and Paula Firth of East Moline, Ill.
