Illinois Wesleyan freshman
Brian Piotrowski is one of three student-athletes chosen as co-winners of the men's tennis "Player of the Week" honor in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin on April 7.
Piotrowski (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) went undefeated in doubles and singles over the weekend. He won both his singles and doubles matches on Saturday, earning No. 2 singles wins over Monmouth's Sam Graf, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, and Elmhurst's David Devaney (Marshall, Mich./H.S.), 6-3, 6-3. Piotrowski also teamed with
Michael Christison (Morton, Ill./H.S.) to win at No. 2 doubles over Graf and Tyler Lampe of Monmouth by an 8-5 score, and a win over Elmhurst's Devaney and Robert Korsch (Franklin Park, Ill./East Leyden), 9-7.
Piotrowski shared the honor with North Central freshman Matt Boguslawski and Carthage junior Sammy Ramoni.
Boguslawski defeated Lake Forest's Jon Flaksman at No. 2 singles 4-6, 7-5, (10-5) in the Cardinals' deciding match of a 5-4 win over the Forresters on April 4. He also teamed with junior Sam Sweeney to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, against Alex Presman and Jason Witznitzer. The win was the duo's sixth in a row.
Ramoni won his No. 2 singles match against the University of Chicago's Troy Brinker 4-6, 6-1, (10-3) on April 5. Chicago is currently ranked fifth in the Central region and 20th in the country.
