D3football.com 2009 All-North Region Team
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Five Illinois Wesleyan football players have been chosen to the D3football.com 2009 All-North Region Team.
On the defensive squad, senior linebacker
Nick Nikolich was named to the first team and senior cornerback
Roman Hunter was a third team selection.
Offensive tackle
Travis Boothe and center
Keely Flood, both seniors, were chosen to the third team along with junior punter
Dennis Zic.
The Titans were 10-2, tying a record for most wins in a season, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. IWU won its 14th College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship with a 6-1 record.
Nikolich, who was named CCIW "Don Larson Defensive Player of the Year", led the Titans with 84 total tackles (60 solo) and had 6.5 quarterback sacks for -74 yards. He also recovered a fumble. He finished his career with 258 tackles, good for 10th all-time at IWU.
For the 2009 Titans, Hunter made 57 tackles and had three interceptions while also accounting for four pass breakups.
Zic finished with an average of 40.4 yards per punt, the fourth best in an Illinois Wesleyan single season. He punted 47 times with a long of 56 at Wisconsin-Whitewater in an NCAA playoff game and placed 11 punts inside the opponents' 20 yard line.
Nikolich and Hunter were first team all-CCIW selections and Boothe and Flood were chosen to the second team.
