BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan junior punter
Dennis Zic has been elected to the first team of the college division all-District V academic football squad and will join representatives of seven other districts on the
ESPN: The Magazine Academic All-America national ballots.
Zic has a 3.88 grade-point average double-majoring in economics and risk management at Illinois Wesleyan. He is an academic all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection and a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon economics honorary.
Playing for a team that is 7-1 overall, 4-1 in the CCIW and No. 19 in the D3football.com poll, Zic is No. 26 in the national Division III rankings with a 39.0 average per punt. He has punted 31 times for 1209 yards with a long of 55 yards (against both Aurora and Elmhurst) and has put six inside the opponents' 20 yard line.
Zic is currently No. 2 in CCIW games only in punt average at 39.4 with the fifth fewest in league (21).
In 2008 he punted 40 times for total of 1,336 yards, a 33.4 average, and had a long boot of 60 yards against North Park, the 11th longest in school history, and placed nine punts inside the opponents' 20 yard line.
A product of Fenton High School, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zic of Wood Dale, Ill.
The all-district teams are chosen by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. To be considered for the ESPN: The Magazine Academic All-America squads, players must be of at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 (of 4.0), and be a starter or first-line reserve.
