BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - With 24 points, the Illinois Wesleyan women's tennis team finished in fifth place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships at Bloomington's Evergreen Racquet Club on Oct. 9-10.

Freshman Helen Alex finished second at No. 1 singles, defeating Millikin's Michelle Hart, 6-0, 6-0, and Gina Klein of Carthage, 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (7-5), before losing in the finals to Wheaton's Elizabeth Worsowicz.

Freshman Liz Exo placed fourth at No. 3 singles as she beat Donna McKinney of Elmhurst, 6-1, 6-0, before losing to Carthage's Hollis McPeek, 6-1, 6-1. Exo then beat Augustana's Emily Doemland, 8-1, and lost 8-2 to North Central's Elizabeth Micheletti in the third place match.

Freshman Alissa Goetz earned a third place finish at No. 6 singles. She opened with a loss to Wheaton's Kirsten Boyer before winning in the playback semifinals over Carthage's Stephanie Zundl, 8-5, and in the third place match over Krista Panko of Augustana.

In the first round of doubles play, Exo and Alex paired for a win at No. 1 doubles over Michelle Hart and Michelle Micor of Millikin, 6-1, 6-0, before losing to Wheaton's Kayli Edwards and Elizabeth Worsowicz. Alex and Exo rallied to earn third place at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 win over North Central's Cory Schillerstrom and Alicia DeGrado.
