ELMHURST, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan senior
Kerry Devitt became the first women's runner in school history to finish first in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet, helping her team to a third place finish in the meet.
Devitt won the women's race by more than 30 seconds with a time of 23:15.3 and was chosen as CCIW Female Athlete of the Year at the meet, held at Eldridge Park in Elmhurst, Ill.. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The Titan women finished third with 69 points, behind North Central (48) and defending champion Wheaton (49). The Cardinal women won their sixth CCIW title in school history, and first since 2006.
Elmhurst (84), Carthage (122), Augustana (138), North Park (238) and Millikin (239) rounded out the women's team scores.
Illinois Wesleyan's
Liz Ave Maria (24:04.4) placed fifth and
Katelyn Draths (24:40.6) was 13th, both earning all-conference honors.
Illinois Wesleyan men were fourth with 116 points, trailing North Central, Augustana, (54 points) and Wheaton (91). The North Central men's team picked up a perfect score of 15 as the Cardinals took the top seven places individually to win the CCIW championship for the 36th straight year (dating back to 1974) and for the 43rd time in school history. Carthage (153), Elmhurst (161), North Park (198) and Millikin (246) rounded out the team scoring.
North Central's Sean Carlson won the CCIW "Male Athlete of the Year" honor as he won the men's race with a time of 26:33.8.
Illinois Wesleyan's low men's finisher was senior
Wally Farris with a time of 27:29.9, good for 13th place and earned him all-conference distinction.
